Hi Pat, I too Have license plates.(even a double (Oshkosh Shop = FLy In).Because hundreds of thousands come by planes and cars each year to the big EAA event. Her shop is very near the action on HWY 41 frontage road... I'll trade for one of the Uppers... We love to go to the UP . . . did often with raising our kids...loved the skiing at the Porkies best....
Ideas.. sash them with some blocks added of pieced block orphans . . . or use as a border of plates to a center of pieced blocks or landscape of a quilting room or shop or favorite place...
I have a lot of Wisconsin fabrics from several years of special prints from State Shop Hops. On one side those prints in a quilt top... and on the back I'll have the license plates. Either as a border or with the dash stripe of the center of two lane highway between two black lanes on each side of center between each plate going around... I've seen a nice bag with the plate used as car license plate ust fenders and grill and windshield showing...very clever... tote the stich in car projects in that bag... ready for a drive with hubby or girlfriends any time... bus trips...etc.
use the ideas... i won't mind... want to trade for Fly In plate ? I didn't get any out of state ones. Did go to MI. But no plates ordered/none available at the shop visited...
I did not collect license plates the first year that I did the Row by Row shop hop in PA and NY but started collecting in 2014 in FL and PA and in the states in between. I have about 20--haven't counted them lately.
After reading,St.Dale, an interesting but odd parody of The Canterbury Tales , and homage to Dale Earnhardt by Appalachian author, Sharyn McCrumb, I became a first time fan of NASCAR in 2014. So I have decided to do a NASCAR quilt--probably a racetrack and cars and incorporate the license plates somehow as a way to shine a light on my current interests. I may have to include sheep (I am a spinner too) and ice hockey (GO PENS). If I could find Ice Road Truckers on TV down here in FL, I might have to put a big rig on an ice road on the back of the quilt too. My eldest daughter told me the other day that she soon won't recognize me if I keep taking up these quirky interests. Such is life. Celeste (aka Dollybee) in St. Augustine
